Frequently asked questions

How do I use my profile?

Upload your SELF.md file to your AI, or simply paste its contents into the conversation. It gives the model structured context before the conversation begins, but doesn’t replace the conversation itself.

How do I move my profile to another device?

Your exported SELF.md file belongs to you. Store it anywhere and move it freely between devices. To restore your profile in SELF.md, simply import the file. The app rebuilds your profile from it, so you don’t need to complete the questionnaires again.

What can I ask?

Anything. Your profile is additional context for the AI, so how you use it is entirely up to you.

  • What are this person’s strengths?
  • What kind of work might suit this person?
  • Which patterns stand out across the profile?
  • Which findings appear to contradict each other?
  • What could this person explore in psychotherapy?

Why isn’t questionnaire X included?

SELF.md only includes scientifically validated self-report questionnaires that measure relatively stable characteristics. Questionnaires focused on recent states—for example, “during the past two weeks”—are generally excluded. Some instruments cannot be included because of licensing restrictions. The battery is also designed to provide broad coverage without unnecessary overlap, so similar questionnaires are not all included.

Can you add questionnaire X?

Requests are welcome. Email info@self-md.app with the questionnaire name and why you think it should be included. New instruments are evaluated for scientific quality, licensing, overlap with the existing battery, and relevance to long-term AI context.

Who is behind SELF.md?

SELF.md is developed independently by a single developer as a non-commercial hobby project. The goal is simple: make validated self-report questionnaire data portable, user-owned, and easier for AI to use as context.
